In honour of Father's Day, we want to encourage the transformational men in our lives to embrace a shift in their own wellness adventures.
@doctormerchant , our medically trained Homeopathy practitioner, has written a powerful blog highlighting his experience with male health.
He shares that "over 18 years of practice has demonstrated that men only make up 15% of my practice. And over half of those are prodded by their partners to see me for their health needs."
The reality is that "men are generally more comfortable within the orthodox medical system if they need treatment for these conditions. According to that model, common conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol or stomach ulcers are usually considered chronic and genetically predetermined and can only be treated by taking medication for life."
Dr. Aziz believes that "Successful [homeopathic] treatments change the vibrational environment within the body. I find that my patients report feeling more relaxed, more energized and more positive. Their blood work attests to healthier developments as well."

Want to ease your body from the inside? Explore this recipe!

Crispy sweet potatoes with chickpeas & tahini yogurt

Ingredients
4 medium sweet potatoes
4 tbsp olive oil
1 large garlic clove , crushed
1 shallot , finely chopped
400g can chickpeas , drained
1/2 cup baby leaf spinach
small bunch dill , finely chopped
zest and juice 1 lemon

For the tahini yogurt
1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy free alternative)
2 tbsp tahini
20g pine nuts , toasted
110g pomegranate seeds

Method
STEP 1
Wrap each potato in foil and put directly on the hot coals of a barbecue for 35-45 mins, depending on the size of the potatoes. Insert a skewer into each one to check that they’re cooked. (Alternatively, heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and put the foil-wrapped potatoes on a large baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 45 mins-1 hr or until the centre is soft. Once cooked, put under a hot grill for 3 mins until the skin is blackened and crispy.)

STEP 2
Meanwhile, heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the garlic and shallot and fry for 2-3 mins or until softened, then stir the chickpeas into the mixture. Gently warm through for 1 min or so, then add the spinach and leave to wilt. Add the dill.

STEP 3
Whisk together the lemon juice, zest and remaining olive oil in a small bowl. Season to taste and stir into the chickpea mixture. Gently mash with a potato masher until the chickpeas are slightly crushed. Mix together the yogurt and tahini in another small bowl, and season to taste with salt.

STEP 4
Split the potatoes open lengthways. Fill with the bean mixture, drizzle over the tahini yogurt and top with the pine nuts and pomegranate seeds.

In the coming days, the full moon culminates in transformative Scorpio to form a total lunar eclipse. Eclipse’s are known to bring sudden change, new realities, and transformation. The Moon represents our subconscious mind and emotional tides. As the Earth’s shadow overcomes the moon during an eclipse, the emotional mind is temporarily hidden, providing an opportunity to reveal and transform our current emotional state. We are presently being pushed to surrender our fear, control, and doubt to the hands of the universe. This eclipse has the power to really set our eyes on the prize if we can allow our fears to be swept away, as the Earth’s shadow temporarily consumes our moon. The emotional effects of the eclipse play out at highest intensity following the first month, but is just the beginning of a 2 year cycle. Shadow work, meditation, cleansing, and reflection, perhaps through journaling, is recommended to work through an eclipse season with as much ease as possible. Remember that these can be energetically taxing times. It is most important to simply be present with ourselves and embrace growth and change with open arms.

We are all bearers of light and somewhere in our stories, the light can be hard to shine. Jessica, one of our amazing Reiki practitioners shared about her journey...

"I began my Reiki journey in 2017 alongside my Reiki Master, Bettina Maria, in Red Deer, AB. A good friend of mine introduced me to her as I was going through very hard times. I was in the dark and could not see the light at the time. I had lost track of my path and felt lost with no directions.

Bettina turned her lantern on and guided me until I found my way back home. She reminded me of how bright I can shine and that this is the light that will always follow me. This was the reminder that I truly needed. It was a powerful and sacred relationship that was being created. While learning to trust her, I also learned how to trust myself and others, again.

She didn’t heal me. She did more than that. She accompanied me while I healed myself.

Everything that I needed was already within, always have been and forever will be. I needed to truly know that and believe fully in my power."

Jessica is also a massage therapist and currently offers reiki sessions (hands on or off) and reiki massages (combination of reiki and massage therapy) at Wellness on Whyte. She incorporates aromatherapy (essential oils), tuning forks and crystals to her sessions.
