“A guided meditation paired with the soothing sounds of singing bowls create a tranquil environment for the body and mind to sink into a deep state of relaxation.  Combined with Reiki, an energetic healing technique that activates the natural healing process of the body, this is truly an immersive experience.”

Our Reiki Sound Healing Meditation combines three modalities: Reiki, Sound Healing, and Guided Meditation. To learn more about each, read the corresponding descriptions below.

Reiki

“Reiki” (ray-key) is a Japanese term for Universal Life Energy (Chi) — the energy that maintains and nurtures all living things. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not based in any religion. Reiki promotes peace and harmony through natural healing; it brings balance to the mind, body, and spirit. When our energy flows uninterrupted within and around us, we experience a deep sense of well-being.

During a treatment, the recipient will lie down in a comfortable position and remain fully-clothed. Reiki energy flows from the hands of the practitioner in various positions on or near different areas of the recipient’s body. The experience of the recipient can vary in intensity from subtle to notable shifts, and it can vary from treatment to treatment.

Common responses to Reiki include:

  • Feeling sensations of warmth, tingling, or vibrations
  • Seeing colours or having visions
  • Falling asleep
  • Releasing emotions
  • Experiencing a deep state of relaxation
  • Feeling an overall sense of well-being

“As running water smooths the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.” – founder of Usui Reiki, Dr. Makao Usui

Sound Healing

Using sound for well-being has been practiced since the beginning of recorded history and traces all the way back to ancient civilizations. There are many forms of sound healing, such as vocal chanting, singing bowls, and shamanic drums.

Everything in the universe has a vibrational frequency. The basic principle of using sound is to introduce a frequency through instruments or vocals to influence our internal vibration. Through the synchronization of these vibrations, our usual waking beta brain waves are able to slow down to alpha (relaxed state), theta (meditative state), or even delta (sleep state) waves.

On a more simple level, consider the impact of the music you listen to. If you are putting music on that you would like to exercise to, you are likely to choose something upbeat. Perhaps a significant song from your past comes on the radio and triggers an emotional response in you. Lullabies are played for infants to help them fall asleep. These are just a few examples of how music and sound can influence our responses.

The singing bowls are the instrument used for the sound bath component of this treatment. This instrument can bring deep relaxation to the body through the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. This ‘rest and digest’ response alleviates stress and allows us to feel more at ease.

Additional benefits reported from sound healing include fewer mood swings, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure, better pain management, and improved sleep.

Guided Meditation

Meditation is a practice that increases mindfulness: the state of being conscious in the present moment. Through focus and awareness, meditation eliminates the stream of thoughts that can often cloud the mind. This brings clarity and a greater recognition and acceptance of “what is.”

Guided meditations are led by an experienced meditation teacher and are suitable for all meditators — though they can be especially helpful for beginners or those who struggle to focus the mind. In guided meditations, you follow instructions to direct your attention and intention through methods such as visualization, scanning areas of the body, or sending healing energy to a person or situation.

There are numerous benefits to meditation including: stress reduction, greater patience and tolerance, heightened creativity, clear thinking and problem-solving, gaining new perspective, reducing negative emotions, improved memory, pain relief, increased self-awareness, and more.

With greater knowledge of these modalities on an individual level, we can better understand the power of combining all three. Come experience the bliss of our new Reiki Sound Bath Meditation!
