Unlocking the Power of Your Subconscious Mind with Hypnotherapy

I am inspired by the transformative power of hypnotherapy. As a massage therapist and hypnotherapist at Wellness on Whyte, I noticed that the biggest barrier people faced was not that their bodies were stiff, it was that their minds were stiff. Converting my massage therapy clients into hypnotherapy clients has often been met with skepticism. Many struggle with mental blocks that keep them stuck in the same habits, perpetuating their pain.

Napoleon Hill famously said, “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” Skepticism, too, can be transformed into belief and personal growth. Hill also noted, “Skepticism, in connection with all new ideas, is characteristic of all human beings. If you follow the instructions, your skepticism will soon be replaced by belief. And belief will become crystallized into absolute faith in your ability.” I was first inspired by Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich,” where he emphasized the power of the subconscious mind, saying, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Similarly, Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s “Psycho-Cybernetics” delves into the concept of self-image and how our subconscious beliefs shape our reality. These works highlight that our subconscious mind is a powerful force that can be harnessed to bring about profound changes in our lives.

Understanding the Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind stores our beliefs, memories, and experiences, driving our automatic behaviors and reactions. Unlike the analytical conscious mind, the subconscious is more intuitive and emotional. This is why emotions like hope, optimism, faith, and enthusiasm are so influential—they deeply impact the subconscious.

The Power of Visualization

One of my clients, Sarah, struggled with anxiety and feelings of being unlovable. During our RTT session, we regressed to scenes from her past that had caused her to believe she was unworthy of love. In just one session, Sarah learned the rules of the mind and was able to tag negative looping thoughts and replace them with positive, empowering ones. This allowed her to overcome her social anxiety, which had also been the root of her addiction. The mind responds to the pictures and images you give it, making visualization a potent tool for change.

A fundamental rule of the mind is that it responds to the pictures and images you give it. By consistently visualizing a positive outcome, Sarah’s mind began to expect and realize this new reality. Another rule is that imagination is more powerful than knowledge—our subconscious cannot differentiate between a vividly imagined scenario and a real one. This is why visualization is such a powerful tool for change.

Hypnotherapy and Rapid Transformational Therapy

Hypnotherapy, especially RTT, uses the state of hypnosis to access the subconscious mind. During a session, you’re guided into a deeply relaxed state where your subconscious becomes more open to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking. This can lead to rapid and lasting change. When you’re in a state of hypnosis, your brain predominantly produces Theta waves. Theta brain waves, which operate at a frequency of 4-7 Hz, are associated with deep relaxation and meditation. This state is where the subconscious mind is most accessible and open to suggestion, making it an ideal time for therapeutic interventions. In this state, the mind can bypass the critical conscious mind and directly access the subconscious, facilitating profound and lasting change.

John, another client, came to me with a desire to quit vaping. During our RTT sessions, we identified the root cause of his addiction and replaced it with empowering beliefs. John not only quit vaping, but also felt a renewed sense of control over his life. His transformation was profound and rapid, showing the true power of hypnotherapy.

Embracing Positive Emotions

Positive emotions like hope, optimism, faith, and enthusiasm can significantly impact the subconscious mind. These emotions open the mind to new possibilities, whereas negative emotions can close it down. This is where the concept of the 80/20 trap comes in. Often, people get stuck trying to change their habits by expending 80% of their effort on taking action and only 20% on their mindset. However, if you spend 80% of your time on your mindset and energy, you can easily pinpoint the 20% of effort that will make the most profound change. We can either spiral downward, allowing negative emotions to take over, or spiral outward, expanding our mind and potential. The more we focus on positive emotions, the more our mind opens, allowing our potential to expand.

Another client, Jennifer, struggled with binge eating because she believed she was not enough and would never have enough. Through RTT, she learned to replace these beliefs with empowering ones. Now, Jennifer is a moderate, sensible eater who feels in control of her life and her choices. Her journey highlights how changing our mindset can lead to profound changes in our behavior and well-being.
